Malta sets the national minimum wage NATIVELY as a WEEKLY rate, not hourly or monthly. Official adult (18+) full-time rate = EUR 229.44/week, effective 1 Jan 2026 (Legal Notice 289/2025, gazetted 22 Dec 2025). The schema has no weekly basis, so monthly is derived as 229.44 x 52 / 12 = EUR 994.24/month using the 40-hour statutory week. Implied hourly (part-time pro-rata per DIER = weekly / 40) is approx EUR 5.74/hr; Malta does not publish a native headline hourly figure, hence min_wage_hourly_local left null. Sub-minima: age 17 = EUR 222.66/week; under 17 = EUR 219.82/week. The 2026 increase comprises the annual COLA (EUR 4.66/week) plus an uplift under the 2023 National Agreement on the Minimum Wage (Low Wage Commission). Employees are also entitled to statutory bonuses (approx EUR 135.10 in March and September) and a weekly allowance, which are additional to the minimum wage. Sectoral Wage Regulation Orders (WROs) may set higher rates. Prior (2025) adult rate was EUR 221.78/week.
