Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales (BMAS) - German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social AffairsGermany's statutory minimum wage (gesetzlicher Mindestlohn) is published natively as an hourly rate. Effective 1 January 2026 it is EUR 13.90 gross per hour (up from EUR 12.82 in 2025). Set by the 5th Mindestlohnanpassungsverordnung following the Minimum Wage Commission's 27 June 2025 recommendation. It will rise again to EUR 14.60/hour on 1 January 2027. Sub-minima/exemptions: the general minimum wage applies to all employees aged 18+. It does NOT apply to under-18s without a completed vocational qualification, to apprentices/trainees (Auszubildende, who instead receive a separate statutory minimum training allowance/Mindestausbildungsvergütung), to long-term unemployed during the first 6 months of re-employment, or to compulsory interns. Some sectors have higher collectively-agreed branch minimum wages (Branchenmindestlöhne). For reference, a 40-hour week yields roughly EUR 2,410 gross/month. Confirmed by Destatis (Federal Statistical Office).
